An officer with the Newport Police Department has died after being shot in the line of duty Monday.
A manhunt was quickly underway for the gunman… who shot 41-year-old Lieutenant Patrick Weatherford.
Lt. Weatherford, a 15-year-veteran of the department, died at a Newport hospital a short time after he was shot.
FOX 16 reporting that the shooting happened in the area of Remmel Park
An arrest was made this morning. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.
