Sign up now for May Craft Classes at the Arkansas Craft School

March 31, 2014 by Cotton Rohrscheib

May is the perfect time for a get-away to Mountain View; while the weather is still pleasant and before the summer crowds hit. And what better reason for a get-away, than to take a craft class! The Arkansas Craft School has some special workshops scheduled for the month of May.

Have you always wanted to learn to turn wood on a lathe? Kip Powers will start out the month with Introduction to Woodturning May 2 – 4. Students can be rank beginners – the Craft School will even provide your tools. Starting right with spindles, then bowls and plates, this class will be ‘hands on’, and students will come away with the firm foundation needed to begin turning wood safely; as well as small projects created while learning these new skills. Tuition for the three-day class is $200.00.

May 12 – 16, Beau Anderson will be in town to teach Glass Bead Making, from the 12 – 15, followed by Designing with Handmade Glass Beads on the 16th – which Beau will be teaching with his mom, Sage Holland. The first four days, beginning to intermediate glass bead makers can work to learn bead making basics, or to improve their lampworking skills. On Friday, students will be taught design and construction techniques for putting glass beads together to create attractive jewelry pieces. Students may sign up for either class, or both – for a complete tutorial. Tuition for the four day class is $450.00, and for the one-day class is $150.00 ($600.00 for both classes).

Beginning Saturday afternoon, Saturday May 24, and concluding Sunday at noon, May 25, Becky Holden will be teaching Tatting Basics. Students will work with tatting shuttles and create a small caterpillar bracelet, and get started on techniques for creating tatted medallions. Tuition for the class is $100.00.

Visit the Arkansas Craft School’s website, www.arkansascraftschool.org for more information on these and other upcoming classes, as well as registration forms and scholarship applications. Students may also sign up for classes by calling Terri Van Orman at (870) 269-8397. The Arkansas Craft School, located in Mountain View, Arkansas is dedicated to the education of aspiring and practicing craft artisans for success in the Creative Economy. The Craft School partners with Ozarka College and Pulaski Technical College, who offer Continuing Education credits for all Craft School courses. Support for the Arkansas Craft School is provided, in part, by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and the National Endowment of the Arts.
