Arkansas Craft School Offers Foundation Craft Courses For Youth
The Arkansas Craft School in Mountain View, AR is offering classes during the Beginning Points Program for youth , July 16-18. Crafts can be a lifelong passion. The craft that chooses you can be a vocation or an avocation, but either way, it will enrich your life. This summer, young people, ages 13-18, have a chance to seriously pursue a craft they are curious about. These fundamental beginning craft classes include:
Capturing Color – Stained Glass Structure with Dona Sawyer
Beyond Quilting – non-traditional fabric art with Jan Hickman
Mud with attitude – pottery basics with Judi Munn
Beauty from the eye – photography with Phillip Walrod
Fiber is art – spinning, weaving and felting with Dana Shaeffer and Glenda Hershberger
Drawing is Fun-damental – the basics of drawing, painting and design with Peggy Taylor
Wood in the round – turning and carving basics with Wright Pillow
The Beginning Points Program will be held on the campus of the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas. Classes will begin Thursday morning with orientation at 8:00 a.m. and continue each day, with a break for lunch, until 4:00 p.m. All students in the program will be offered the chance to gather for a refreshing dip at the swimming pool at the Cabins at Dry Creek from 4:15 to 5:15 for a fun social hour each day.
The classes will be hands on. Students will create and complete their own projects, as well as a class project that will be on view in a traveling display throughout the year.
Class size is limited to 10 students per class. Students must have reached their 13th birthday by the first day of class. Pre-register by July 10 for the class of your choice. The registration fee is $25.00 per student. These classes are partially funded by a grant from an Arkansas charitable foundation.
