Arkansas Highway Police Stop Marijuana Shipment and Arrest Two

On June 25, 2016, at 4:30 a.m., Arkansas Highway Police (AHP) stopped a one-ton pickup truck hauling a small car trailer at its Lehi Weigh Station on Interstate 40 near West Memphis and found 175 pounds of marijuana, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The driver of the vehicle, Rodney O’Neal Thompson, gave the AHP officer a driver’s license for Seddrick Deshon McShan and claimed it was his own while McShan was actually the co-driver of the vehicle. Seeing that the physical description did not match the AHP officer investigated further and obtained Thompson’s actual license, which was suspended. This and other suspicious behavior led to the AHP officer calling in a Crittenden County K-9 unit for assistance.

When the Crittenden County deputy arrived on scene, the K-9 alerted on the top ramp of the car-hauling trailer, where they found 175 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a 2013 Volkswagen. It is believed that the marijuana was destined for Atlanta, GA from Washington State.

Thompson and McShan were both charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. Thompson was also charged with Driving on a Suspended License and Failure to Pay Unified Carrier Registration Fees. They are both being held in the Crittenden County Detention Center under a $75,000 bond.
