Billie Burnett of Mountain View was selected to the Senior Arkansans Hall of Fame

Billie Burnett of Mountain View was selected to the Senior Arkansans Hall of Fame established by the Arkansas General Assembly in 1991 to recognize outstanding older Arkansans. Burnett will be honored Friday August 8th at the White River Area Agency of Aging office in Stone County during their 35th Anniversary Celebration.

Ms. Billie Burnett of Mountain View was also a 2014 inductee to the Senior Arkansans Hall of Fame. The submitted biography said Ms. Burnett has touched people worldwide.

Orphaned at an early age, she experienced the realities of going without food and as a result, she has a passion for feeding the hungry. She regularly volunteers to distribute food to those in need. She has worked for more than 25 years with the Stone County Food Ministry providing counseling and support for those in need.

As an active member of the Stone County Resource Council for the past 15 years, she has actively promoted volunteerism in her community. She has supported the local food ministry which also provides clothing and other necessities to low-income families in need of help. A retired registered nurse, she served as a medical missionary for one year in Haiti.
She is a master gardener and a member of the Mountain View Garden Club.
 
Notably, Ms. Burnett also has a unique artistic talent writing calligraphy. She has spent many hours writing verses of scripture on sea shells for more than 40 years. Thousands of her shells with verses in more than 10 languages have been distributed around the world. She was awarded best of show at the Beaver Bend Heritage Festival in Broken Bow, Okla., for her shell artistry.
 
Together with her husband, the late Jerry Burnett, she ran a drug rehabilitation facility for eight years.
