Cotton Calls on Administration to Explain Bergdahl Exchange

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cotton (R-Dardanelle) today sent a letter to President Obama expressing concern over the administration’s decision to exchange five senior Taliban commanders for SGT Bowe Bergdahl, who had been held by the Taliban since 2009. The letter highlights the lack of transparency in the negotiation process and the conspicuous circumstances surrounding Bergdahl’s disappearance. It calls on the President to take the following actions:

  • Address the American people directly and personally to explain the facts of Bergdahl’s disappearance, his conduct, and the administration’s knowledge of these matters
  • Release all investigative reports produced by the military and intelligence community related to Bergdahl’s disappearance and conduct
  • Assure the American people—and, more important, our troops—that the Army will fully investigate this matter and Army prosecutors and commanders will not face unlawful command influence from the administration or civilians and general officers in the chain of command
