Description: he Spring Quarterly Meeting of the Izard County Historical and Genealogical Society will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at 2 P.M. in the newly remodeled Community Room in the Izard County Fair Ground Building located on Lacrosse Road near Melbourne. The meeting is open to the public, members of the Society, and guests.

The presentation for the meeting will focus on the architectural, archeological, and historical significance of the Arnold Springs Farmstead of Melbourne including its association with Izard County’s settlement period, the founding of the county seat in Melbourne, Civil War activities, and the role of the farmstead in the post-Civil War years. The Arnold Springs Farmstead was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. The presentation will also include the benefits of a National Register listing for present-day Izard County heritage tourism.
