Old Independence Regional Museum will be offering its monthly program for senior citizens on Tuesday, June 30 at 10 a.m. Greta McCann, museum volunteer, will be in Civil War era costume and interpreting the events surrounding Emily Weaver’s arrest and conviction for spying during the Civil War. “Greta has presented this program for numerous school groups and at several events. She really brings Emily Weaver to life,” said Amanda Nikkel, Humanities Educator. After the living history program, Greta will discuss the language of the fan. Participants will have the opportunity to decorate a hand fan and practice fan language.

Old Independence serves a 12-county area: Baxter, Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Marion, Poinsett, Sharp, Stone, White, and Woodruff. Parts of these present-day counties comprised the original Independence County in 1820s Arkansas territory.
