My brother’s pajamas, daddy’s work shirt, Nanny’s apron, my plaid dress – What fun I had identifying the fabrics used to make the quilt on my bed. In bygone days when quilts were made only for warmth, they were often made from bits and pieces of old clothes but not anymore. Quilts are now beautiful works of art. Many fabric stores sell only quilting materials in a myriad of prints and all colors of the rainbow. It is painting with fabric.
The Daisy Patch Quilters have planned a real treat for the public to coincide with the Spring Festival in Heber Springs, Arkansas, April 24-25, 2015. This stunning event will be held in the Education and Commercial Buildings at the Fairgrounds on Bittle Road. Quilters from all over are urged to display their quilts at this show; however there is a limit of three quilts per person due to space availability. There will be prizes for Best of Show and Viewers Choice. Anyone may display their quilts but they must be delivered to the Cleburne County Fairgrounds in Heber Springs Tuesday, April 22 between the hours of 9:30 AM and 4:00PM. There are at least 12 vendors and over 100 quilts expected for this event.
Since the Daisy Patch Quilters group was formed in 1998 by Margaret Cartstens and Jean Beisenstein, it has been a very active organization. They have made quilts for babies and adults at Haven House, Cleburne County Cares, and 45 lap quilts were given to local nursing homes. Their Christmas ornaments were used as a fundraiser for Cleburne County Humane Society. Donation of quilts was made to the Literacy Council and Mount Eagle Methodist Camp. This quilting group has been a real asset to the community.
All of the benevolent work of Daisy Patch Quilters has not been local. They made 124 pillowcases for Children’s Hospital, 20 quilts for foster children, 14 went to a veteran’s home and 38 to the Sheriff’s Children’s Ranch. This group is worthy of support during their quilt show in April. It will offer a delightful change of pace from other activities during Spring Fest.
In addition to the opportunity of viewing these beautiful works of art, there will be a quilt raffle and door prizes. Though there is no charge for displaying quilts or entering the contest, there is a $5.00 admission charge to the show.
