Distinguished Young Women of Arkansas To Change Format

The State Committee for Distinguished Young Women has voted to change the format of the program for 2014, 2015, 2016. It has been the committees desire to have our program cycle to be at the beginning of the Senior Year to give the Arkansas Winner the full you to represent the State and help build awareness for the program. As a committee we want to have Arkansas represented well therefore we have chosen the only accept girls with a 3.5 GPA or better. Since this is a Scholarship program and the participants are evaluated in the following manner:

Panel Evaluation – 25% the Panel Judges will be looking for perception, a sense of values, and clarity of expression, concern and ability in human relations.

Scholastic Achievement –20% Panel of Qualified educators will review and rate graded transcripts and scores on scholastic test and college entrance examinations.

Talent Completion – 25% Based on originality technical ability, appropriateness of selection and costume, stage presence during performance of vocal, instrumental, painting , dancing etc….

Fitness – 15% Coordination, stamina, posture, and carriage are considered overall evaluation of health and physical well being.

Self Expression – 15% Grace under pressure, ability to communicate, confidence, natural carriage, posture, and poise.

The State program will be held at Rose Room in Searcy on April 5, 2014. As a committee we are keeping some aspects of our former program, but as committee we are excited to begin a new era of work to cycle our program to the beginning of the senior year and focus on the future of Distinguished Young Women in Arkansas. Distinguished Young Women of Arkansas have several fundraisers coming soon March 1st will be Distinguished Darlings Day Camp – girls ages 6-12 will learn an introduction to proper social etiquette through the five areas of “Be Your Best Self” contact me at Arkansas@distinguishedyw.org for more information.

May 17th we have a 5K run in Searcy more details to come in the next few days.

Searcy will continue to be the home of the State Program and we are looking to the Chamber of Commerce and our City and County Leaders and Business community to unite behind our program with their support and welcome the Participants and their families who come to stay, shop and eat in our town.
