Griffin Named to Armed Services Subcommittees
Focus on Little Rock AFB mission, military readiness

WASHINGTON – Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) today issued the following statement after being selected to serve on both the Subcommittee on Readiness and the Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces of the House Armed Services Committee for the 112th Congress:

“I am honored to serve on both subcommittees as they have a direct impact on our national security, especially the military personnel and bases of the Second District.  I am glad to serve on the subcommittee that is responsible for our projection and lift forces, including the C-130 aircraft based at Little Rock Air Force Base (LRAFB). With nearly $700 million in annual economic impact, the mission of LRAFB benefits the Second District while providing the nation critical combat and humanitarian airlift capability. I have first-hand knowledge of the professionalism of the men and women of LRAFB, and I look forward to helping them fulfill their mission.

‪“As a reservist, I know how important readiness is to our military. Whether having the proper training to fulfill the mission or guaranteeing equipment is properly maintained, I will work vigorously to see our servicemembers have the tools they need.”

The Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces focuses on Navy and Marine Corps acquisition programs and Naval Reserve equipment, deep strike bombers, strategic lift (C-130 aircraft) programs and associated weapons systems sustainment accounts.

The Subcommittee on Readiness’ jurisdiction includes military readiness, training and logistics, and deployment preparation and processes. It is also responsible for all military construction, depot policy, installation and family housing issues, including base closure process and energy policy and programs of the Department of Defense.
