Harding University in Searcy hosts concerts in April

SEARCY, Ark. — Harding University musical groups will perform in several concerts as the semester comes to a close. Groups performing in the next two weeks include the University Chorus, Concert Choir, String Quartet, Chamber Singers, Wind Ensemble and Belle Canto.

Joint Chorus concert, April 19 at 7 p.m., Searcy High School
As well as the University Chorus, choirs from Searcy High School and Harding Academy will perform. The University Chorus is a select group of 60 voices known for performing choral classics, new works, spirituals, opera, folksongs, novelties and contemporary Christian songs. The group has performed in 37 countries and recently sang Brahm’s German Requiem with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

Concert Choir, April 21 and 22 at 7 p.m., Reynolds Recital Hall
Comprised of 90 members from approximately 30 different majors, the Concert Choir performs selections of choral and Spanish works, spirituals, hymns and worship songs. The group performs on campus and on regional tours.

String Quartet, April 24 at 2 p.m., Reynolds Recital Hall
Drawing talented members from the University and community joint orchestra, this ensemble includes violin, viola and cello. The group performs on campus as well as at social and civic events.

Chamber Singers, April 24 at 8 p.m., Reynolds Recital Hall
Ranging from 12-20 members, the University Chamber Singers perform Renaissance and contemporary music.

Wind Ensemble, April 25 at 7 p.m., Administration Auditorium
The University Wind Ensemble presents concerts on campus and throughout the state performing at state conventions, festivals and other events. The group frequently sponsors guest solo artist appearances and has premiered new works.

Belle Canto, April 26 at 7 p.m., Reynolds Recital Hall
Beginning in 2011, Belle Canto is the University’s all-women ensemble. The group performs secular and sacred pieces at campus concerts and events such as the annual Lectureship.
