Description: Conflict & Consequence: Commemorating the Civil War is the theme for Arkansas Heritage Month. Old Independence Regional Museum is remembering Independence County’s Civil War history with the dedication of a marker on the museum grounds and the launch of the museum produced card game, “Conflict” on Saturday, May 14th.

Activities will begin at 10 a.m. with Sylvia Crosby, museum volunteer and board member, leading a program on Songs of the Civil War in the Southerland Theater.

At 10:30, in cooperation with the Batesville Area Civil War Roundtable and the Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, a marker will be dedicated which will observe the two Union occupations of the town of Batesville. The Union soldiers’ camp was on the land from St. Louis Street to Central Elementary, including the museum grounds.

Throughout the morning, costumed interpreters will be roaming the grounds, story time will take place in the Shawneetown exhibit, and visitors will be able to sample Civil War era recipes
