Ozark Folk Center State Park to Hold Craft Village Open House April 17-18, 2015

The Ozark Folk Center State Park will be hosting its annual Craft Village Open House April 17 and 18, 2015. The Village will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, with no admission charge.

“While you’re in Mountain View for the Folk Festival, come by and enjoy our free weekend in the Craft Village”, said Jeanette Larson, Craft Director.

There are more than 20 working shops with master crafts people who make their living creating and selling handcrafted items. Shops include a Pottery Shop that uses kilns from wood-fired through electric, propane to a modern waste vegetable oil kiln; one of the few black powder guns smiths left in the country; the top craft broom maker in the US; an apothecary shop; basket weaver; knife maker; quilters and so much more.

In addition to the Craft Village open house visitors have a chance to sample some of the music featured during its nightly shows. The Music Roots concert on Thursday April 16, with free admission, will highlight the musical talents of all the area students this concert. “It’s one of our more popular shows, said Daren Dortin, Music Director. Groups like Possum Juice, who play on Saturday, participated in the Music Roots program and are now regulars on our nightly shows.” This Stone County program is sponsored by The Committee of 100, Bluegrass Association and taught through the local schools.

Friday and Saturday night concerts are $12 Adults, $7 Children 6-12 under 5 free and feature Clancey Ferguson and Mulligan Stew.

The Ozark Folk Center State Park is located at 1032 Park Avenue in Mountain View. Take Hwy 5/9/14 (Sylamore Ave) to Jimmy Driftwood Parkway which ends in the parking lot. Visit the General Store then ride the free shuttle service up the hill to the Home Spun Gift Shop where you enter the Craft Village.
