Republican State Senate District 18 Candidate Rapert Questions Hoyt Voting Record

Conway, AR. – Today, Republican State Senate District 18 Candidate and small business owner Jason Rapert questioned the voting record of Democrat opponent Johnny Hoyt stating that he is “out of touch with Arkansas views and values.”

Rapert said that during the 2009 general assembly Hoyt voted against HCR 1011, a resolution put forth to affirm Arkansas’ rights under the 10th Amendment.  “In light of the fact that the Obama Health Care Bill oversteps the power of our Federal Government in relation to the 10th Amendment, Hoyt’s vote puts him at odds with most Arkansans,” Rapert said.  “I believe it is important for all elected representatives in our state and nation to vigorously defend the U.S. Constitution and I would have voted to reaffirm our rights under the 10th Amendment.”

Rapert also took issue with Hoyt’s vote for House Bill 1339, which sought to abolish the Electoral College in favor of the national popular vote. “With this vote, Hoyt shows that he would rather support the liberal agenda of President Obama, than let the votes of average Arkansans count. You cannot claim to be a conservative and then vote so haphazardly on vital Constitutional issues.  Arkansas voters want someone grounded in their beliefs and not willing to compromise fundamental rights – I am that person.”

“The future of our nation and our state is at stake.  The voting record of my opponent is very important for people to understand because it allows us to predict the way he will likely vote in the future.  I pledged to run my race based upon issues and these two votes are at issue right now.”
