Road Closed for Pre-emptive Maintenance to Natural Bluff Near Hardy

Hazards posed by a natural bluff on State Highway 342 near Hardy requires a road closure, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

On Friday, February 17, around 8:00 a.m. a section of State Highway 342 was closed to through traffic. The roadway will open as soon as the hazards posed by the natural bluff have been mitigated.

On February 9, several tons of rock broke loose from the bluffs and fell onto the road. Department employees removed the debris and patched the damage done to the highway. Workers returned to examine the bluff again on February 13.

After the examination it was decided that due to the possibility of more rocks falling, the highway was closed so workers could conduct pre-emptive work without risk to motorists.
