Rock fundraiser set for Toad Suck Review April 29

The University of Central Arkansas’s acclaimed new literary journal, the Toad Suck Review, will kick off a rock show Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m. at Bears Den Pizza, adjacent to the UCA campus.
A cover charge of $5 will be collected at the door, and Toad Suck Review merchandise will be sold along with the inaugural issue and discounted back issues of the Exquisite Corpse Annual, the literary journal’s former incarnation.
“The idea is to put on a music event to raise funds for a second printing of the almost-out-of-stock first issue while showcasing spectacular local literary talent,” said Mark Spitzer, editor-in-chief.
Bands performing will include Don’t Stop Please, an experimental/indie/rock group featuring William Krzeszinski, Joel Ludford, Nick Caffrey, Marly Feliciano, Robert Gaiser and Will King; sleeze-rockers Es Lo Que Es, starring Drew Skarda, Aaron Ball, El Chachi DeLaCamara and Ethan Cardimona; The Sesh, a psychedelic ambient alt-band made up of James Fowler, Bobby Mikkelsen, Matt Halstead, Joe Young and Corey Jones; and Still Reign (Jake Brown, Matt Paul, Adam Crain, Andy Honer, Josh Ingram and Tyler Scalise).
Spitzer said in addition to having a unique national literary journal that is applauded for its cutting-edge quality of work, Toad Suck Review impacts the region by supporting local artists and providing occasions to “shake those money-makers.”
The Toad Suck Review is published by the Department of Writing in the College of Fine Arts and Communication and is quickly becoming recognized as a driving literary force in Central Arkansas as well as a major contender on the national level. Distribution is up and listings in writers markets and websites like and are delivering hundreds of submissions to the editors from all over the world. Issue #1 includes work by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, three other poet laureates, Kevin Brockmeier, Xaviera Hollander, Lyn Lifshin, a good number of Arkansas writers (some of them UCA students), and more.
Bears Den Pizza is located at 235 Farris Road in Conway. For more information, visit or contact Spitzer at (501) 450-3339 or [email protected].
