Seventeen members of the North Central Arkansas Artist League attended a two-day acrylic workshop in Fairfield Bay

Seventeen members of the North Central Arkansas Artist League attended a two-day acrylic workshop in Fairfield Bay on Nov. 12 and 13, taught by renowned artist Charles Harrington, Bella Vista.

Charles Harrington, renowned Bella Vista artist, demonstrated watercolor techniques in acrylic paint on Nov. 12 and 13 for members of the North Central Arkansas Artist League at Fairfield Bay, using his I-pad as a photographic reference for the Buffalo River landscape in progress.

Harrington is a retired University professor and architectural designer and illustrator with several graduate and undergraduate degrees. He holds signature status in four national and international art societies and is the recipient of top awards. Featured in many national magazines and painting books, Harrington is the author of the illustrated book Acrylics: The Watercolor Alternative and two instructional DVDs. More information and photos of his work can be seen on his web site www.charlesharrington.com.

Students in the workshop studied landscape painting, using new techniques of applying acrylic paint with medium or gel instead of water to achieve a watercolor style of painting that can be framed without matting or glass. They met at Bayside Art Studio and Gallery in Old Town at the corner of Highway 330 and Greenwood Rd.

The Artist League meets each Monday from 9:30 to noon to paint together, and the public is welcome to visit, watch them paint, and view framed art for sale. Members also participate in group exhibits, with about 150 paintings continually changing at various venues in Clinton, Greers Ferry, and Fairfield Bay.
