This short-term budget represents some of the hard decisions that must be made to fix our fiscal situation. I know that many good programs will suffer as a result, but I also know that Arkansans want a sustainable path forward.
It is now time to roll up our sleeves and get serious about solving our nation’s long-term fiscal solutions. We owe it to the American people and the world watching us to show leadership and address these challenges. They are bigger than politics. It requires compromise on our part and shared sacrifice from all Americans. The blueprint provided by the debt commission offers a good starting point, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to further reduce spending, reform our tax code and address entitlement programs.
