Voices of Central Arkansas To Perform Christmas Concert Dec. 8th

The Voices of Central Arkansas will perform a Christmas concert, “Sing Alleluia!” on Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Ida Waldran Auditorium on the University of Central Arkansas campus.

“This concert will get the audience in the Christmas spirit with a combination of traditional carols along with new holiday offerings,” said Dr. Sheri Cook-Cunningham, assistant professor of Music Education at UCA and director of VOCA.

The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public.

“Attendees will share in the delight of a wide range of singers, from our youngest choir, The Choristers, directed by Carrie Martens, through our Concert Choir and High School Choir,” Cook-Cunningham said.

VOCA is an award-winning, auditioned choral program created in 1996 for children in grades 3 to 12. VOCA is part of the University of Central Arkansas Community School of Music.

The three VOCA choirs will begin all together performing “Sing Alleluia, Clap Your Hands” by Sally Albrecht. The concert will also include individual pieces for the choirs such as “Born, Born in Bethlehem”, “Only a Manger”, “We Three Kings”, “Sleigh Ride”, “I Wonder as I Wander” and, finally, “Carol of the Children” and “Angel’s Carol” by John Rutter. “Give Us Hope” by Jim Papoulis will be the concluding piece performed by the three choirs.

“Our High School Choir has grown from 10 singers last year to almost 50 singers this year,” Cook-Cunningham said. “The directors are excited to share the many talents of all our students from central Arkansas with the audience.”
