2nd Friday Downtown Night in Batesville!

2nd Friday Downtown Offers Cure for Cabin Fever

Music, Gallery Opening, Film Highlight Evening Out

About this time of year, about the time many of us are working hard to take care of holiday bills, cabin fever strikes.  Main Street Batesville and many downtown businesses have just the solution, the January edition of 2nd Friday Downtown.  Although some downtown businesses will be taking January off, many will be open until 8:00 p.m. Among the various things to do, all in the free or very affordable category:

Live music at Healing Grounds, 363 E. Main.  Singer/guitarist Eric Van Williams of Jonesboro will be performing in the city’s emerging music venue from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. or later. Williams’ musical influences include Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Goo Goo Dolls. Before becoming a solo act he played in the Jonesboro Christian rock band, Faithful Cry. Local duo January Falls will open the show with a brief set.  There is no admission charge, but Healing Grounds owner Deb Dalwrymple will pass the hat for the musicians.

Live music at Randy’s Music, 146 E. Main.  Popular local duo Randy and Stephanie will move inside for the evening to entertain music lovers.  Free.

Reception at the Batesville Area Arts Council Gallery, 246 E. Main.  Fiber artist Judith Dierkes.  Free, refreshments.  5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Free film screening at MorningSide Coffeehouse, 616 Harrison. The Jesus Guy.  The big hit from the 2008 Ozark Foothills FilmFest follows an unlikely evangelist with long, flowing hair who wears a white robe and travels by foot.  Is he a prophet or is he a charlatan?  8:30 p.m.  Free.

Cajun Night at Elizabeth’s Restaurant, 231 E. Main. Cajun food specials.

Main Street executive director Paula Grimes notes, “Many downtown businesses will be open but if you are interested in visiting a particular business it is probably best to check before leaving home.”

The 2nd Friday Downtown Wander and Wonder Walk is a project of Main Street Batesville in cooperation with the Batesville Area Arts Council and participating merchants.
