Aggravated Assault Lands Conway Man in Jail

Danny Oneel, age 28, of Conway was arrested on October 3, 2010, and charged by Twentieth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden on two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Terroristic Threatening.
Although it is unclear what initiated Oneel’s violent outburst, the known facts indicate that Oneel chased his wife and other houseguests while pointing a loaded shotgun in their direction. He repeatedly stated that it was his intention to kill his wife. When the police arrived at the scene, Oneel had locked himself into his home with several guns. It took approximately three hours before the officers were able to convince Oneel to surrender.
A first appearance on these charges was held yesterday in front of Circuit Judge Charles E. Clawson and his bond was set at the amount of $250.000.00 with a condition of that bond being that he have no contact with any of the victims involved, and that a GPS monitor be attached to his person prior to his release.
“This is a case where the bond may seem high compared to the charges that have been filed, but given the alleged actions of the defendant in this case, we felt it was necessary. We are pleased with Judge Clawson’s decision in this case and agree that the violence exhibited and the potential for this defendant to flee or commit additional crimes warranted the high bond.”said Vaden.
