Charles Portis, the Arkansas legend known for authoring the famous western, “True Grit,” tragically died on Monday in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 86. He was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/dementia in 2012.
“True Grit,” was made into a movie that gave John Wayne his only oscar, and co-stared Glen Campbell. It’s a great American western that will forever remain one of the great movies in Hollywood’s history.
