Arkansas Audubon Society Convention, Nov. 18 – 20

Celebrating birds and biodiversity, the Arkansas Audubon Society (AAS) fall convention will engage participants through birding trips, folk music, and ecology presentations. This convention will be held Friday,November 18 through Sunday, November 20 at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Rogers. Friday registration (4 – 6 p.m.) will transpire in the Wilson Roomhallway.

 The convention will offer excellent opportunities to view Bald Eagles and other late-fall specialties like waterfowl, sparrows, and hawks.  

 Friday afternoon field trips will cover Compton Gardensand Crystal Bridges, and Woolsey Wet Prairie. Saturday field trips will encompass Devil’s Den State Park, Centerton Fish Hatchery, Lake Atalanta, Chesney Prairie Natural Area, Beatie Prairie, and the Eagle Watch Nature Trailin Gentry.

 Saturday evening’s speaker is Dr. H. David Chapman, apoultry science professor at the University of Arkansas. He will talkabout Lake Fayetteville’s history and bird life.

 Also Saturday, seven ornithology graduate students will give presentations about their study areas: Wedge-billed Woodcreepers in Ecuador, the effects of forest disturbance in the Ozarks, the nocturnal activity of nesting songbirds, the Louisiana Waterthrush as an indicator of water quality, the foragingneeds of forest birds, and the interdependency of rare hornbills and raretrees.
