Arkansas Highway Commission Approves Bid for Improvements in Independence County

The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved a bid for improvements to roadways in Independence County, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

The purpose of this project is to resurface approximately 2 miles of various city streets in Moorefield to include Moore avenue/Cossey Street, Ottinger Street, David Street, Morris Avenue, Nance Street, Ham Street, Morgan Road, Paul Street, and Miller Creek Road; approximately 2.6 miles of various city streets in Newark to include Front Street, S. Oak Street, 3rd Street, Morgan Street, Gravel Street, B Street, Thomas Creek Drive, 10th Street, College Street, Main Street/7th Street, and 13th Street; and approximately 1.7 miles of various city streets in Sulphur Rock to include W. Wright Street, E. Broadway Street, Polk Street. S. Robinson Street, E. St. Charles Street, and N. Vaughn Street.

Atlas Asphalt, Inc. of Batesville was awarded the contract at $656,312.78.

Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. Completion is expected in mid 2019.
