Arkansas Lawmakers Announce $31,713 for Local Law Enforcement

Washington – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Marion Berry (AR-01) and Vic Snyder (AR-02) today announced $31,713 from the U.S. Department of Justice for local law enforcement priorities in Arkansas.

The following communities will receive funding:

City of Searcy, $14,878 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program

City of Paragould, $16,835 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program

“Our local law enforcement must have the proper resources, equipment, and technology to keep crime to a minimum. With this grant, they will be better equipped to help keep their communities safe for residents and visitors. I will continue to do all I can to ensure that Arkansas receives the funding and resources we need to keep our state safe,” said Lincoln.

“Local law enforcement is our first line of defense against violence, drugs and crime,” said Pryor. “The Byrne grant program is a proven and effective source that provides officers with the tools and training necessary to keep our communities safe, and I will continue to fight for this program’s funding.”

“We must give our local law enforcement the tools they need to succeed,” said Berry. “With this funding, they will be able to obtain the resources to fight crime more effectively.  I am pleased this funding will be used to support the hard work our local law enforcement officers are doing to keep our communities safe.”

“I’m pleased to see Searcy receive this funding to improve safety and increase the effectiveness of their law enforcement,” said Snyder.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on local needs and conditions. Funds can be used for technical assistance and training, personnel, equipment, or other purposes.
