Arkansas Press Women 2014 Scholarship and High School Awards Luncheon

Arkansas Press Women will celebrate its 2014 Scholarship and High School Awards luncheon Saturday, April 26, at 11:30 a.m. in the Campbell Dining Room of the Student Life and Technology Center at Hendrix College in Conway. Registration for the event begins at 11 a.m.

APW will recognize an Arkansas journalism student with the inaugural Carol M. Griffee Memorial Scholarship. Griffee, a veteran journalist and former president of APW, died in 2011. Her friends in the communications community established the scholarship fund to recognize students working in the areas in which Griffee excelled: environmental, investigative and political reporting.

“Carol was widely known and respected for her integrity, commitment to accuracy and excellence, and unwavering support of the First Amendment and the Freedom of Information Act,” said Debbie Miller, APW president. “This scholarship is a fitting tribute to Carol’s legacy and achievements in the field of mass communications.”

APW also will award a scholarship to an undergraduate student who is majoring in mass communications or journalism at an Arkansas college or university. Winners of the APW High School Journalism Awards will be recognized.

Cost of attendance is $20. For reservations, contact Helen Plotkin at plotkin@hendrix.edu<mailto:plotkin@hendrix.edu> or 501-450-1225 by Thursday, April 24.
