Arkansas School for Mathematics Sciences counselors to visit 9 County Schools

Arkansas School for Mathematics Sciences and the Arts admissions counselors will be visiting schools in Clark, Conway, Fulton, Izard, Ouachita, Pike, Searcy, Sharp and VanBuren counties during the week of Sept. 6. 

The admissions staff will talk to students about the school and qualifications for attending. ASMSA, located in downtown Hot Springs, is one of 14 public residential high schools in the country dedicated to educating high school juniors and seniors with a special aptitude for science, math and technology.  

ASMSA offers a variety of courses, including college level classes. Many ASMSA graduates begin college at the sophomore level, and some even begin at the junior level. The 88 students graduating in 2010 received acceptances to 132 colleges and universities across the country and earned $10.5 million in scholarships. 

ASMSA also offers extracurricular activities such as band, choir, yearbook, and more than 30 clubs and organizations. 

Enrollment is open to all Arkansas students who meet the educational criteria. Tuition, room and board are free for all students. Students who enroll in the fall of 2011 will live in the new residence halls currently under construction during their senior year. 

ASMSA will host an open house for prospective students and their families from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 11. Tours of the school will be available every half hour beginning at 9 a.m. Students will have the opportunity to talk to current students and teachers.
