Arkansas Storm Update for May 25, 2011

North Little Rock, Ark. –The State’s Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) has received damage reports due to the severe weather activity of May 24-25. As of 10:30 a.m. there are four reported fatalities.

 The SEOC has set up a call center for the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that began on May 23, 2011. This line is to gather information on the damages that citizens have received as well as any information related to possible missing persons.

 The phone number people can call is 888-683-2336. The call center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until further notice.

 At this time there is no assistance available for counties impacted by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that began on May 23, 2011. Emergency crews are working on gathering damage assessments and reporting them to the SEOC. If anyone has damaged property please contact the call center so that it can be added to the total damages for that jurisdiction.

 This line is separate from the FEMA hotline used for the current federally declared disaster. Citizens in counties that are current federally declared disaster areas, for the storms and flooding of April 23, are encouraged to apply for disaster assistance by contacting FEMA by phone at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7585, online at www.disasterassistance.gov or via a web-enabled phone at m.fema.gov. Phone lines are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time every day, and multilingual operators are available.

 Donations can be made to the impacted areas in the form of financial support, product, and/or volunteer skills through the Arkansas Portal of the National Donations Management Program at http://www.aidmatrixnetwork.org/fema/.

 Baxter County

Baxter County Emergency Management has reported flooding throughout the county.

 Carroll County

Carroll County Emergency Management has reported flooding throughout the county.

 Franklin County

Franklin County Emergency Management Office has reported two fatalities; one in Denning and one in Etna. Damage assessments are ongoing to determine the number of buildings affected.

 Johnson County

Johnson County Emergency Management Office has reported two fatalities; one in Strawberry and one in Bethlehem. An estimated 20 homes have sustained major damage and/or are destroyed.

 Marion County

Marion County Emergency Management has reported flooding throughout the county.
