Arts in the Hospital Features Local Photographer

The White County Medical Center Arts in the Hospital program recently welcomed the work of photographer Eric Holmes, of Searcy. Patients, guests, associates and volunteers have enjoyed the selection of photos on display outside the hospital’s Carousel Gift Shop, located on the first floor of the hospital at 3214 E. Race Ave.

Holmes, who also works as an RN full-time in the WCMC Emergency Department, took up photography as a hobby three years ago when he started taking pictures to be used as home décor. His self-taught photography method uses clean and simple lines and composition to deliver powerful photos.

“I love taking pictures and capturing people’s memories,” Holmes said. “I like for the images to be used straight out of the camera with very minimal editing. When I’m not working, I’m out taking pictures every chance I get.”

Also a history buff, Holmes has been taking unique pictures of downtown Searcy with historical significance. With one hand, Holmes holds up an old photo and matches it up to the modern version of the building and photographs the images together with the camera in the other hand. There are three such images he has captured so far, and Holmes said he is working with Main Street Searcy to locate similar photos to continue the series. (Pictured with Holmes is an old photograph Stotts Drug Store, located at 103 W. Arch Ave. on the courthouse square.)

WCMC’s Arts in the Hospital program was developed to promote the healing process of patients. The program invites patients and guests to enjoy a variety of art forms during their hospital stay. Art displays range from elementary school student drawings to professional paintings and photography, as well as musical performances from choirs and bands featuring students of all ages.
