Beebe: Ruling is Vindication for Conway Center

Conway – A judge’s refusal to bar new admissions at the Conway Human Development Center is a vindication of sorts for the facility, Gov. Mike Beebe said today.

U.S. District Judge Leon Holmes on Wednesday denied a request by the U.S. Justice Department for a preliminary injunction to halt the admission of school-age children, alleging widespread deficiencies at the facility that serves about 500 developmentally disabled residents.

“The judge looked at it objectively,” Beebe said. “He’s not prejudiced on one side or the other. His job is to look at all the evidence, listen to all the arguments and look at it as objectively as possible, and if he thought there was imminent danger he would have granted an injunction. His point was, there wasn’t imminent danger.”
