Birding 101 Workshop Nov 6

Have you ever wondered about the birds in your yard? Or taken a walk and wondered what some birds were? With winter bird-feeding season soon upon us, now is a great time to learn the tricks of the trade.

“Birding 101” is a free short birding workshop that will be taught

at Carol Corning’s Fresh Air Yoga Studio and Art Gallery at 358 Main St., Clinton,

on Saturday, November 6th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The public is invited to the program, which includes both a Power Point presentation and a bird walk to a nearby park or other natural area, applying all the things that are learned.

Attendees are invited to bring binoculars for the outdoor session; limited pairs will also be available for loan during the session.

Instructor Dan Smith said, “Birding 101 is aimed at those who want to be able to identify birds they see in their yards, at their bird feeders, and in their outdoor activities. Although designed primarily for absolute beginners, Birding 101 might also be helpful for novices.”

Smith has a passion for birds and enjoys sharing this fun with others. Having been a serious birder since 1978, he has taught birding courses to both school-age and adult education classes. Serving as Education Chair for the Little Red River Audubon Society for five years, Smith has made numerous presentations on birds and other nature topics to area schools. His presentations on nature and wildlife topics have also been enjoyed by Fairfield Bay and Heber Springs Rotary and the Ozark Society. In 2006 Mr. Smith was selected to assist in the search for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker in Arkansas.

Smith is currently Vice-President of the Little Red River Audubon Society, and a docent for the South Fork Nature Center with the Gates Rogers Foundation, these organizations are collaborating to provide this opportunity to the public.
