Bluegrass Fest to Benefit Children’s Hospital

HORSESHOE BEND – The first annual Country and Bluegrass Music Festival on Saturday, May 16, will be filled with top mid-South talent…and all proceeds will go the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, according to sponsors.

Scheduled entertainment will include Mark Phillips and the IIIrd Generation Bluegrass Band of Oklahoma, the Keisler Brothers Band from Sheridan, Arkansas; the Mammoth Spring String Band, from Arkansas, and K.R. Wood of Texas.  Comedian “Bandy” Fowler of Branson will bring his “laugh-a-minute” family show to the festival.  Other acts may be added prior to the event.

The new festival will be staged on the grounds of Hillhigh Resort in Horseshoe Bend, according to spokesperson Glenna O’Neal.  Camp sites will available in the meadow and people are urged to bring their lawn chairs for seating.

In addition of a full schedule of music and comedy, the festival will also include a “poker run” by the GWRRA, one of the sponsors of the show. For more information on the run contact Chris Depriest at 501-882-9172. Other sponsors are the North Central Arkansas Tourism Council and Hillhigh Resort.

Admission will be $15 for adults, $5 for children.  Anyone bringing a new toy to donate will get $1 off each adult admission.  The toys and admissions will go to the Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, according to Ms. O’Neil.  For more information, call 870-670-5614.
