Lyon will observe Diversity Week from Feb. 5-11.

Lucious Spiller was born in St. Louis, Mo. At an early age, he discovered that he had been blessed with a special gift. His dad gave him a guitar when he was four, and he started out playing in church. His uncle is the late famous blues musician Samuel “Magic Sam” Maghett.

Relocating to Arkansas at the age of 18, he forged his way through the ranks with energy, spark, and fervor that to this day remain undiminished. He went to Philander Smith College in Little Rock and graduated with a degree in liberal arts.

Spiller’s musical ability and showmanship catapulted him to the top of the Arkansas music scene. He has performed with many well-known musicians, including Bo Diddley, Larry “Totsy” Davis, Albert King, Eddie Clearwater, and Robert Cray.

He has opened for such artists as the legendary Ritchie Havens, Bobby “Blue” Bland and the Tower of Power, Zach Brown, and many others.

Spiller was the winner of the annual Arkansas River Blues Contest in October 2011. He represented the Arkansas River Blues Society in Memphis Jan. 31 through Feb. 4 at the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge.
