Celebrated tenor Mark Brown to perform at Harding University

SEARCY, Ark. – Internationally renowned tenor Mark Brown will perform
Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. at Harding University as part of the Classical
Lyceum Series. The concert will take place in the Administration
Auditorium, and tickets are $3.

An emerging lead tenor in the Italian and French repertoires, Brown
first attracted national attention in 1992 when he won the Opera
Company of Philadelphia/Luciano Pavarotti Competition. He later
performed with the late Pavarotti on “Live from Lincoln Center” in
“Pavarotti Plus.” He was named debut artist of the year for his role
as Pinkerton in “Madama Butterfly” with New York City Opera.

Brown has performed internationally and recently sang under the
direction of Riccardo Muti for the opening night of La Scala, an opera
house in Milan, Italy.
In addition, he has taught at universities and conservatories in
Arkansas, Colorado and Missouri, and also overseas in Florence, Italy,
and Istanbul, Turkey. Upcoming classes and concerts are scheduled in
Seoul, Korea; Florence, Italy; Athens, Greece; London, England; and
Rosario, Argentina.

Born in Lansing, Mich., Brown grew up in Searcy, where he graduated
from Harding. He went on to receive his master’s degree from Indiana
University, where he studied with opera singers Nicola Rossi-Lemeni
and Virginia Zeani.

The Classical Lyceum Series has been bringing performers to Harding
for more than 50 years and usually has two different attractions each
semester. Other concerts for the 2009-10 series include:
