Ceremony for Dedication of the Swifton Post Office as the George Kell Post Office Building

Washington – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced the ceremony that will dedicate the Swifton Post Office as the George Kell Post Office Building, and invited all residents to attend. The event will take place at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 26 at the Swifton Community Center, 106 Main Street, Swifton, Arkansas.

Senator Pryor and Congressman Berry will be present at the ceremony. Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served.

George Kell had a long career in Major League Baseball playing for teams such as the Athletics, Tigers, Red Sox, White Sox, and the Orioles. During his 15-year playing career, Kell made the All-Star team 10 times and established himself as one of the greatest third basemen in the history of the American League. For his accomplishments, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.

“The ‘George Kell Post Office’ will be a fitting tribute to a man who was not only a fantastic athlete but who also made great contributions to Swifton and the state,” Lincoln said. “As Arkansans, we are proud to call him one of our own.”

“George Kell was a leader both on the baseball field and in the Swifton community, and I am pleased to be honoring his legacy at this dedication ceremony,” Pryor said.

“I look forward to honoring George Kell, a native Swifton resident that not only showed great passion and success in his baseball career, but also in his continued support for Arkansas through his community leadership,” Berry said.
