Congressman Berry’s Statement on Veterans Day

Each year on November 11, our country takes time together to honor veterans who have served and those who have lost their lives fighting for the democratic ideals that we all cherish as Americans. Throughout our nation’s history our most beloved freedoms have been maintained by brave men and women that have come forth to defend democracy from tyranny. This truth has been held from America’s independence to our current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The level of commitment and sacrifice shown by the men and women in uniform is a constant inspiration and a reminder of what makes America a great nation.

Today on Veterans Day, we honor their service and pledge to fulfill our duty to provide earned benefits to these courageous men and women, as well as their families. Congress continues to work hard to pass legislation that honors our veterans’ commitment to our nation and ensures they have access to quality health care, education, and career opportunities. For all our soldiers have done for us, it is a moral necessity that we do all we can to provide the best health care available.

This Veterans Day is particularly important to many families living in Northeast Arkansas who saw the safe return of Arkansas Army National Guard’s 1037th Route Clearance Company. I extend my deepest respect and honor to welcome these brave men and women back home, and pray for the safe return of their fellow soldiers who are still deployed in combat.

I can never say enough to express the thanks I owe to our troops’ service. Our military has answered the call time and again to protect the values and freedoms that make up our great nation and their bravery and strength remain unmatched. To all veterans and their families—thank you for your sacrifice, your strength and your character. God bless you and the work you do.
