LITTLE ROCK – Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after touring a portion of the Lake Maumelle watershed in Perryville with Central Arkansas Water Engineering Technician Eric Fleming and Director of Customer Relations & Public Affairs John Tynan:
“Since the Mayflower oil spill earlier this year, I’ve visited the area numerous times, stayed in constant contact with residents and local officials at Unified Command and called on ExxonMobil to relocate the Pegasus Pipeline away from the Lake Maumelle watershed. Today I observed several areas where the pipeline is exposed and potentially vulnerable to rocks and debris being pushed by fast-moving streams. It confirmed my belief that there is much work to be done to secure the pipeline – which ultimately needs to be moved – and I will continue to work closely with Central Arkansas Water to ensure the drinking water for more than 400,000 Arkansans remains safe.”
The Pegasus Pipeline runs through more than 13 miles of the Lake Maumelle watershed and also crosses some of the lake’s tributaries.
