Conway Offers a Variety of Cycling Opportunities

The City of Conway is making strides to become one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the state for recreational and experienced cyclists alike. Many streets throughout Conway have been painted with more than 18 miles of bicycle lanes and 41 miles of share the road symbols known as “sharrows.”

Bicycle lanes help define road space and provide encouragement for new cyclists to ride on the road with the flow of traffic, instead of on sidewalks. Bike lanes are also designed to decrease the stress of riding in traffic, especially for new cyclists.

Share the road symbols or “sharrows” are bicycle symbols with arrows above that are intended to educate cyclists about their positioning on the road and the proper direction to ride in a lane. Sharrows also serve as a reminder to drivers that cyclists are sharing the road with vehicles.

In addition to safe street riding, Conway offers the Tucker Creek Trail. Phase I contains about two miles of paved cycling and walking paths in southwest Conway. Phase II of the trail is nearing completion and will connect Gatlin Park and the city’s new Pompe Park with approximately two additional miles of paved path. Additional plans are underway to increase and connect multi-use paved paths in Conway.

Conway also offers beginner and experienced mountain bike riding with more than six miles of single-track trails at Cadron Settlement Park. If you haven’t visited Cadron Settlement Park in awhile, take time to check out the cleared six-mile trail. The picture above is from the scenic trail at the Park.

Conway has several dedicated groups focused on cycling in Conway. Additionally, The Ride offers a variety of ways for cyclists to socialize and become involved in the community. Contact The Ride for additional information about group rides and more.
