Conway Police Department’s statement regarding the officer-involved shooting on Sunday, October 24, 2021

The following is the Conway Police Department’s statement regarding the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
At approximately 11:57 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021, officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in a residential area off of College Street where the suspect was reported to be in possession of a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers were notified that the suspect left the scene. While searching the surrounding area for the suspect, officers were able to locate him a few blocks away and initiated a traffic stop. 
During the course of the traffic stop, officers were attempting to place the suspect under arrest and a struggle ensued. The suspect retrieved a weapon and shot at the officers, wounding one. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect. The wounded officer was transported to the hospital, and they are currently stable. 
Because this is an officer-involved shooting, the Conway Police Department has requested that the Arkansas State Police take lead in this investigation. The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave per department policy while the Arkansas State Police conduct their investigation.
