CORPS OF ENGINEERS TEMPORARILY RESTRICTS BOATING ACCESS INTO HURRICANE BAY ON GREERS FERRY LAKE

HEBER SPRINGS, Ark., May 12 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is temporarily restricting boat access into Hurricane Bay to emergency personnel only who are helping clean up after a recent tornado caused significant damage to private boat docks, boats, homes and numerous trees in the area at Greers Ferry Lake.

To minimize hazards to boaters, restrictive “No boats” buoys are positioned at the cove’s entrance to remind boaters the area is unsafe for normal traffic.  The buoys will be removed once the tornado debris has been removed from Hurricane Bay.

Boaters are advised to slow down and use extreme caution in all areas of Greers Ferry Lake as floating debris can be found throughout the lake.  Because of the high water, points of land and standing timber normally on dry ground are now unrecognizable boating hazards.  Be sure to have an observer in your boat when possible and always wear your life jacket.

If you have questions regarding the restricted access to Hurricane Bay please call the Greers Ferry Project Office at (501) 362-2416, or stop by the office located near the dam on Highway 25, three miles north of Heber Springs.
