CORPS WANTS TO RECYCLE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE FOR FISH COVER
GREERS FERRY LAKE, Ark., Dec. 29 – Organic Christmas trees don’t have to go to the trash after Christmas. In fact, all those trees displayed in homes and businesses across the area can be put to good use when you complete your gift giving by donating your tree to the fish in Greers Ferry Lake.
Donated trees will be bundled together, then submerged into the lake to create fish habitats. These shelters will provide fish with breeding areas and escape cover, giving them a better chance to reach maturity. These habitats also provide a resource for anglers.
To protect our natural resources, remember, only live trees, not artificial ones, will be used to make the fish shelters. To properly prepare your tree for recycling please remove any tree stands, lights, tinsel, nails, ornaments and other obstructions before taking it to a drop-off point.
If you would like to donate your tree, you can drop it off from Dec. 29 until Jan. 9 at Sandy Beach across the street from the boat ramp behind the cable in the Heber Springs area, at the Devils Fork Park new high-water boat ramp in the Greers Ferry/Fairfield Bay area, or at the boat ramp in Choctaw Park in the Clinton area. Local tree sellers with leftover trees are welcome to drop off their trees as well.
