The White County Regional Library System has recently added eMagazine and eMusic digital download services to their library website, whitecountylibraries.org. These new digital services complement the eBook and eAudiobook download services already available to library patrons on the website.
Digital magazines are offered through Zinio for Libraries with subscriptions purchased from Recorded Books. Awarded Best New Database of 2012 by Library Journal, Zinio is the world’s largest newsstand, offering multi-user access to popular publications. Since August 1, 2013 library members of all White County public libraries have unlimited simultaneous access to 42 digital magazine subscriptions, which can easily be viewed on most Internet-enabled devices inside or outside of the library. Access is free to library users and requires only that they have an email address and a library card in good standing. Zinio’s unique technology digitally recreates a magazine page for page, including full color pictures, intuitive navigation, key word article search and interactive elements such as audio and video. Family Handyman, Good Housekeeping, National Geographic, Popular Mechanics, Reader’s Digest, Seventeen and Taste of Home are just a few of the popular titles available. Downloaded copies may be kept by the user permanently—they do not expire, unlike the downloaded copies of ebooks or eAudiobooks.
A second new digital service called Freegal™ offers free download access that includes over 7 million songs from over 28,000 labels (including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists) that originate in over 80 countries. With a library card in good standing, library users may download up to 3 songs per week. Like emagazines, these downloads may be kept permanently by the user.
Please see a library staff member at any branch of the White County Regional Library System for more information on how to access these new digital services or go to whitecountylibraries.org. Branches include the Searcy Public Library, Baldwin Memorial Library(Judsonia), Lyda Miller Public Library(Bald Knob), Beebe Public Library, Pangburn Public Library, Bradford Public Library, and the Rose Bud Public Library.
