Escapee Sentenced After Years At Large

A Van Buren County man has pled guilty to charges of Robbery, Kidnapping, Escape and Theft of Property.  Tim Nguyen Miller, age 36, was sentenced to serve 264 months in the Arkansas Department of Correction with an additional 120 months suspended imposition of sentence.

“While the story of this defendant’s escape and run from justice are certainly interesting, this case and particularly this conclusion, is about justice for the original victim who was robbed at gunpoint and held against his will” said Twentieth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden.

The case began in March, 2001 when Miller stopped a Fairfield Bay man on the road and held him at gunpoint while demanding money.  After forcing his victim to transport him to Hillcrest Dry Storage facility on Highway 16, the victim was bound but otherwise left unharmed.

After the victim freed himself and contacted authorities, Miller was apprehended in Clinton where he was arrested and held in the Van Buren County Detention Center pending trial.

While in custody, Miller stole a Van Buren County vehicle and escaped.

Miller remained free until he was apprehended in California and was returned via governor’s warrant to Van Buren County.

“This case is a good example of the old adage that you can run but you can’t hide.  Miller had several years of freedom that he was not entitled to and now the State of Arkansas is going to take those years back.” said Vaden.
