Exhibit Opening Reception in Russellville

Arkansas River Valley Arts Center will host and Exhibit Opening Reception for Roberta Katz-Messenger Sunday, November 1, from 1:00-3:00PM in the gallery at 1001 East B Street, Russellville. Public is invited and there is no charge for the gallery or the reception.

Roberta Katz-Messenger was raised in the suburbs of Chicago. She worked for several years at The University of Chicago and the Center for Continuing Education while continuing her education at Chicago’s Art Institute and Goodman School of Drama.

Stained Glass became Roberta’s first love and passion after moving to Denver in 1969.  She apprenticed with a European-trained stained glass artist. She opened her own stained glass studio in 1971.

Roberta moved to Arkansas in 1972 and opened Pentacle Studio where she designed and built stained glass for homes, churches and businesses.  She has shown her work as fine art at the Capitol Hotel, Arkansas River Valley Arts Center, Fort Smith Art Center, Territorial Restoration, Pine Bluff Art and Science Museum, Governors Exhibition and District Artists Exhibit. She has taught stained glass privately and as visiting artist for the Artist in Education program.

In 1982, Pentacle Studio became Pentacle Gallery and operated for the next 17 years showing the work of Arkansas’ best artists and craftsmen.  The gallery and Roberta were featured in Arkansas Times, Rural Arkansas, and the Democrat Gazette and dubbed a “gem of the Ozarks”. Other publications like Zaffarano and Hylton’s book, Handcrafted Shelves and Cabinets and Chris Rich’s Stained Glass Basics focused on her commission work for installations and also her sensitive autonomous pieces.

Roberta is committed to volunteering to improve her community and state.
