Fairfield Bay Hosts “Surf the Bay” June 15-16

Fairfield Bay, AR  – Everybody’s going Surfing… even in Arkansas! Fairfield Bay is host to the first-of-its-kind event where surfing is coming to the North Shore… of Greers Ferry Lake that is! Step into the summer sun and out into the clear fresh water to take your turn at “Surfing” the big waves. Everyone can do it – from eight to eighty… here’s how!

“Surf the Bay” will be held at the beautiful Fairfield Bay Marina. Free and open to the public, this weekend long event welcomes visitors of all ages to grab a board and participate in the fast growing sport of wake-surfing. If the waves get too extreme, there’s plenty of other water and summer festival fun to be had.

Come for the Day; Come for the Weekend!

Known for its spectacular views and pristine mountain lake, Fairfield Bay has something for everyone from sun-up to sun-down. Authentic southern cuisine, live music, crafts and unique Ozark wares, and plenty of fishing and swimming. “What will make this day like no other,” says John Spies, General Manager of the Fairfield Bay Community Club, “will be watching the thrilling stunts and tricks of some top professional skiers as they perform for the crowds. This is the first time that people can get out there and try “surfing” the big waters of Arkansas. ‘Surf the Bay’ is perfect for families and individuals who want to enjoy everything the outdoors has to offer in Arkansas. From 8 to 80, you have to come try it.”

“Surf the Bay” will kick off with a big Hawaiian luau on Friday night, featuring a luau feast, surf music, water games and more.  After a full day of fun in the sun on Saturday, the beach party will begin at 5pm and put the finishing touches on a fantastic weekend.  Fairfield Bay offers endless possibilities of experiences that will last a lifetime for your family.

Surf the Bay

Surf in Arkansas? That’s right, big waves, no rope, and no hard falls! This fast growing sport is getting everyone in the water with its three to four feet swells. Stucky & Grimes Extreme Marine and Chubby’s Surf Shop are sponsoring the water sports for “Surf the Bay.”

Some of the best boats in the industry will be available for attendees to enjoy, including Malibu, Axis and MB Sport. These $100,000 boats will be set up to let participants experience the thrill of wake surfing and wake-boarding.  Pro wake boarder, Brandon Lackey, will be on hand to set up individual wake and surf lessons.

“Our team is eager to share our love for outdoor water sports and introduce a new and exciting way to enjoy a fresh water lake,” says Rick Stuckey, owner of Stuckey & Grimes Extreme Marine. If the waves get too “extreme,” make a real splash and try the popular sport of stand up paddle boarding (SUP). Stuckey added, “Stand up paddle boards offer a great way to take advantage of the water and get a fun workout at the same time. Guests can jump in and enjoy many of our friendly competitions going on throughout the day.”

Adding even more sport muscle to the event will be the team from Ghettoworks.  Located in nearby Heber Springs, Ghettoworks will be showcasing their new 2012 Sea-Doo line-up.  The most advanced watercraft in the industry is sure to grab the attention of those thrill seekers in attendance. Try one for yourself.
