Mountain View, Arkansas – – The Ozarks are one of the rare places in the modern world where craftsmanship still starts from the roots. On Saturday, October 18, you can watch Fiber to Fashion in action at the Ozark Folk Center State Park. There will be an angora goat shearing demonstration on the Bessie Moore Deck at noon. Visit the Spinning and Weaving Shop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to see yarn spun and cloth woven. In the Clothier Shop you can watch and visit with seamstresses creating comfortable clothing. Admission to the Craft Village, where you can visit with 22 working artisans in their studios, is $12 for adults and $7.50 for children.
Thanks to the ladies of the Committee of 100, the Ozark Folk Center State Park has a wonderful collection of historic handcrafted clothing, including some Civil War era clothing from the area. This collection will be on display in the Administration Building lobby from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18. Vendors will be set up with fibers, fiber arts and wearable art for sale.
There will be a fashion show of handcrafted clothing and wearable art created by local artisans starting at 2:00 p.m. in the White Oak Auditorium in the Administration Building at the park. Admission to the clothing display and the fashion show is free.
The mission of Ozark Folk Center State Park is to perpetuate, present and promote the Ozark way of life in an educational and enjoyable manner; through craft demonstrations, musical programs, the Heritage Herb Garden, workshops and other special events. Clothing fashions may have changed over the years, but the craftsmanship that Ozark weavers and seamstresses put into their clothing has remained.
