Randy Mac Kemp, 55, A former Heber Springs Sun-Times Editor was killed Sunday in a motorcycle accident two miles north of Shirley on Highway 9 in Van Buren County.

Kemp was riding a 2008 Honda Motorcycle Sunday night near the Shirley area when he lost control and went off the road.

According to police Kemp, traveling east, failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, drove off the roadway, struck a tree and was ejected. Road conditions were clear and dry at the time. Kemp was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kemp was editor of the Heber Springs Sun-Times from 1990 to 2008 and moved from there to be communications director for the Arkansas Association of Counties.

Kemp began his newspaper career at the Searcy Daily Citizen, working his way from reporter and photographer to city editor and news staff supervisor.

He received a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Harding University in 1978, and an MBA from Harding in 2007.

Bob Connell owner of KFFB 106.1 FM Says, “We have lost a community leader and citizen and a good friend”.

The Heber Springs Sun-Times published a note on their website Monday asking for prayers for Kemp’s wife, kids, and grandchild.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
