Gary Owens Voice over and Radio Icon Dies at 80

For those of a certain age, Gary Owen holding his ear on Laugh In in front of the clock with half a dozen hands on its face is burned into our collective memory. Variety reports that Owens died on Thursday at his home in the LA suburb of Encino, not beautiful downtown Burbank. Owens was 80.

Owens hosted a national radio show on the Music of Your Life Network for 30 years and had on-air stints at KMPC, KFI, KIIS FM, KFWB and KKGO in Los Angeles and KEWB in San Francisco. He was also VP of Gene Autry’s Golden West Broadcasters and in 1983 was vice president at Gannett, at the time the biggest media corporation in the US. Owens voiced more than 3,000 cartoons over the course of his career, he was the voice of Space Ghost, Roger Ramjet and Powdered Toast Man on the Ren and Stempy cartoon. read more from Radio Ink Magazine
