Gov. Mike Beebe believes the Arkansas lottery will face more scrutiny

Gov. Mike Beebe said Friday he believes the Arkansas lottery will face more scrutiny from legislators following an audit that prompted an unsuccessful attempt by commissioners to fire the games’ director.

Beebe told reporters that he wasn’t surprised by the commission’s vote a day earlier to keep Ernie Passailaigue as its director. Beebe said he thinks the lottery needs to immediately fix the problems that turned up in a legislative audit released last month that found the lottery failed to apply generally accepted accounting practices in keeping its books.

“I think they’ll face more scrutiny, yeah. I think the legislators have sounded that bell,” Beebe said before speaking to the Arkansas School Boards Association in downtown Little Rock.
